Insurance coverage for GLP-1 medication varies significantly by plan. Coverage may be more likely when treatment is medically indicated for type 2 diabetes or related metabolic disease, including qualifying metabolic syndrome, rather than being requested solely for cosmetic weight loss. Metabolic syndrome or obesity alone does not guarantee coverage, and some plans specifically exclude weight-management medications.
Direct Line Medical will make reasonable attempts to obtain coverage, including submitting medically appropriate claims and prior-authorization information when required. Coverage is not guaranteed. If the insurance company denies the claim, determines the service or medication is not covered, or applies the cost to the patient's deductible, copay, or coinsurance, the patient is responsible for the resulting balance to the extent permitted by the insurance plan and applicable law.
